The view is impressive and most lovely. Countless thatched houses, encircled by green dykes. The church upon a mound somewhat off to the side of the village. The present-day Dorfstraße was once the dyke which protected the inhabitants from floods. The adjoining Wattenmeer is directly visible and a part of life.

But there is also entertainment.  Biike burning – the traditional festival of North Friesland. And probably nowhere any bigger and more beautiful than in Simonsberg. When the fire is lit on 21 February, then the flames extend far into the Friesian night sky. An impressive experience. Subsequently, people get together for a huge curly kale meal and spend a cosy evening together.
